We all know about Dublin’s tourist hotspots - our city’s many attractions that are on every visitor’s list of things to see and do. But how would you describe Dublin to someone who knew nothing about it? Beyond the well-trodden paths, what about our neighbourhoods, the people who live in them? What lies at the heart of our communities?
The Heart of the Village project aims to answer that question by working with community groups across Dublin to come up with a statement that best describes their neighbourhood.
Next year, the Dublin City Council Culture Company are launching a Culture Near You map which will give Dubliners, visitors, and people across the world the chance to escape the well-trodden path and discover the beating heart of Dublin’s communities.
The Culture Near You map will feature information about community groups, activities, handy venues, and local heroes. The Heart of the Village statements will provide visitors to the website a summary of different neighbourhoods, written by people who live there.
The statements are written during a one-off, relaxed workshop with clubs and community groups where we talk about what makes their part of the city unique. We even bring tea and biscuits! At the end, we will have a paragraph that best describes their neighbourhood.
Keep your eye on the website and social media next year to explore the Culture Near You map - and if you are in a group, or know of a group, in Dublin City Council who you think might like to be involved, let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
