FAQs

FAQs

What does Dublin City Council Culture Company do?

We run cultural initiatives and buildings across the city on behalf of Dublin City Council and the people of Dublin.

What is the role of culture in your work?

We value people, culture, and place equally. We recognise that everyone is already involved in culture in their own way. We want to activate more and different ways for people to be culturally engaged. We want to protect, share and add to the cultural story of the city.

What do you mean by culture?

The Council has adopted the broad UNESCO (2001) definition of culture: “The set of distinctive spiritual, material, intellectual and emotional features of society or a social group, that encompasses, not only art and literature but lifestyles, ways of living together, value systems, traditions, and beliefs”. This may include art and heritage but also sports, science, nature, food, hobbies, community involvement and more.

What’s different about what you do?

We are citizen-led and community-focused. We are focused on doing: all our work is about the process and trying new things. No project is made or owned by just one person. We enable and guide people to build the cultural project they want the way they want.

How can I get involved?

With us, you could visit a cultural building, host a Tea and Chats in your community, and get involved in one of our many projects. We suggest you sign up for our monthly newsletter – you can subscribe here – and keep an eye on our “News” page. You can also contact us at info@dublincitycouncilculturecompany.ie and a member of our team will help you find a way to connect with us.

How can I work with you?

We post any work opportunities on our website (marked “opportunities). We suggest you sign up for our monthly newsletter (sign up here) and follow us on social media to be sure you hear opportunities as they arise. Dublin City Council Culture Company is an equal opportunity employer.

How can I share my views with you?

Our contact phone number is 01 524 0346 and our main email address is info@dublincitycouncilculturecompany.ie. Don’t hesitate to get in touch and we’ll direct you to the most appropriate person to handle your query.

When and why was Dublin City Council Culture Company established?

We were established by Dublin City Council in March 2018 to further the work of the Dublin’s Culture Connects initiative, a pilot programme arising from the city’s bid to be European Capital of Culture 2020, and in 2018 we opened our first cultural building project 14 Henrietta Street. The creation of an agile, responsive company dedicated to culture and working alongside numerous council departments and sections acknowledges that culture is a core activity of the Dublin City Council and a vital aspect of city life.

What is your relationship with Dublin City Council?

The Company, a company limited by guarantee, is wholly owned by Dublin City Council. In our work, we partner with the Culture Department of Dublin City Council (CRES), which includes parks, libraries, and the arts office, and other sections within the Council such as community development and the area offices.

Who is on your board?

View our board members here.

Where do you get your funding?

We are funded by Dublin City Council as part of their annual investment in culture.

Where can I read your annual reports?

You can read our annual reports here.
