History Clubs with our Historians in Residence

Our Historians in Residence run regular history book clubs across the city.
Book clubs are a great way to start reading more or to encounter some books that you might not have normally picked up. Book clubs also offer time to connect and build a community with other readers.
Our Historians in Residence run regular history book clubs across the city. Currently, these take place once a month in the library branches listed below. Occasionally dates may change so it's always best to check with the library branch first and to confirm you can book a place.
- Ballymun Library - on the second Monday of the month, at 6.30 pm
- Cabra Library - on the third Thursday of the month, at 1 pm
- Marino Library - on the last Monday of the month, at 6.30 pm
- Phibsboro Library - on the third Wednesday of the month, at 6.30 pm
- Terenure Library - on the second Monday of the month, at 6.30 pm
There are plans afoot for some more history book clubs to be added, so it's always a good idea to chat with your local library if this is something you are interested in.
Each month the book club group picks a book of historical interest, they read it in their own time and then come together to discuss it. Some popular choices so far this year have included The Golden Road by William Dalrymple, The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder by David Grann, and Cathal Brugha by Fergus O’Farrell.
All of the monthly book choices are available to borrow from libraries, or as an eBook from Borrowbox at dublin.borrowbox.com. Our historians are always happy to provide recommended reading lists.
