The Heritage Council has awarded Museum Standards Programme for Ireland (MSPI) Interim Accreditation to 14 Henrietta Street and the Culture Company.

MSPI promotes professional standards in the care of collections in Irish museums and galleries. The programme recognises the achievement of those standards through accreditation. MSPI accreditation is a phased programme of learning in all aspects of museum work.

Participation in the MSPI programme demonstrated the ongoing serious commitment by Dublin City Council Culture Company in ensuring that its team and 14 Henrietta Street would continue to deliver an excellent standard of quality and care for its collection.

For us in 14 Henrietta Street, the building is a major part of our collection - its careful and considered restoration suggests much of the building’s history. Alongside this, and equally important to the collection, are the oral histories, artefacts, and artist responses which bring the building to life.

14 Henrietta Street is a social history museum of Dublin life, from one building’s Georgian beginnings to its tenement times. We connect the history of urban life over 300 years to the stories of the people who called this house home. We protect, share and add to the cultural life of the city.

We tell stories by retelling the story of the lives of the people of 14 Henrietta Street, making connections and uncovering further history by continuing to research the house and its occupants and continuing to learn from the memories and knowledge of others.

The award of MSPIC Interim Accreditation demonstrates 14 Henrietta Street’s achievements covering:

  • Taking care of and documenting the collection;

  • Storing, displaying and exhibiting artefacts;

  • Risk assessment and disaster planning;

  • Visitor care and access;

  • Museum governance and policies;

  • Managing finances;

  • Marketing and

  • Developing an education policy

14 Henrietta Street has won many awards for cultural heritage, including:

  • European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award 2026
  • European Museum of the Year Awards 2020 (Silletto Prize)
  • RIAI Silver Medal for Conservation and Restoration 2024
  • shortlisted for Mies van Der Rohe Award 2019, and
  • the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2018 - Winner Best Conservation / Restoral Project and Winner Best Overall Project.

14 Henrietta Street is owned and conserved by Dublin City Council and operated by Dublin City Council Culture Company.
