Working through partnership to deliver the Dublin Festival of History

This year the Dublin Festival of History will celebrate its 14th edition.
In its first year, the festival featured 42 events. The number of events and the number of partnerships that it takes to deliver the festival has grown year on year, with last year’s festival featuring a staggering 352 events across 115 venues, attended by over 15,600 people.
A citywide history festival of this size is made possible only through partnership and collaboration. In 2025 the festival worked with 90 cultural and community partners, as well as 22 branches of Dublin City Libraries. This allows us to create opportunities for diverse experiences and a wider range of activities which can deepen cultural experiences.
This is evident in our festival programme, which features talks, walking tours, exhibitions, workshops, and film screenings. It also includes Irish Language events, family-focused events, a schools programme, and events with Irish Sign Language interpretation. Events take place in all kinds of venues in neighbourhoods across the city, as well as the city centre.
From community centres, to libraries, museums, galleries, sports halls, libraries, and online - this wide range of places and times makes it easier for people to access the festival in ways that suit their needs or circumstances.
We're currently working on our partnerships for the 2026 festival. If you are interested in being a partner, you can find out more about the festival here or get in touch with us by emailing festivalofhistory@dublincitycouncilculturecompany.ie.
