Your Tenement Memories is an oral history research project which began in 2019, and aims to capture the living memories of tenement life in Dublin by talking to people who have first-hand experiences of those times.
Originally focused on 14 Henrietta Street, the project expanded to eleven different locations across the city through a series of drop-in events throughout the year. In 2019 we were privileged to hear some fascinating stories and we’re delighted to continue the project in 2020. We’ll be visiting more areas where tenement residents were relocated, and the first event will be held in Richmond Barracks.
The project hopes to connect people and communities with the stories and heritage of the city. So if you lived in a tenement or knew someone who did, or if you worked in or around the tenement buildings – whatever your connection, we would like to hear from you.
We’re looking forward to welcoming people with memories of the tenements and those who attend can expect some friendly faces, a cup of tea, the chance to share their experiences, and ensure that their version of history will be told.
Update: The suspension of Dublin City Council Culture Company’s tours and public programming as a result of COVID-19 will be extended in line with Government advice and in order to minimise social contact to help protect the health and well-being of our staff, patrons and visitors.
As a result, our next Your Tenement Memories event scheduled to take place at Artane Beaumont Recreation Centre, Kilmore Road on Wednesday 22 April has been postponed. We hope to reschedule this for a future date.
Our next Your Tenement Memories events are scheduled at:
The Little Flower Penny Dinners, 11 Meath Street
Wednesday 20 July | 10am-12pm
