After three jam-packed weeks of Dublin Festival of History we are catching our breath and looking back at the incredible work done by our team, Dublin City Libraries and our many partners, to bring over 340 free history events to every corner of Dublin City.

This year’s festival in numbers:

  • 340 free events took place in 100 spaces across 17 days
  • We and our partners put out over 16,000 chairs for audiences to listen to talks, workshops, seminars and even one quick fire round, spanning over 1,000 years of history in Dublin, Ireland and further afield
  • 47 events took place across the 21 Dublin City Libraries Branch Libraries
  • We had 69 programme partners who hosted events and programmed activities
  • Over 6,000 people attended the Mansion House for the Big Weekend events of the Festival
  • 22 online events took place and 10 talks were live-streamed from the Big Weekend with ISL interpretation

You can view photographs from the event below or on the Dublin Festival of History Flickr page.

Behind all of the numbers are our dedicated team of expert staff and cultural workers, who plan, programme, schedule, run and troubleshoot, ensuring everyone can discover, access and enjoy each event.

Just as important are our wonderful audiences who engage with the festival with passion and curiosity, whether for the first time or those that return year on year - we extend a sincere thank you to every one of you.

We can’t wait to do it all again with our partners Dublin City Libraries.

In the meantime we will be making lots of events available for playback on the Dublin City Libraries YouTube playlist, and many will be available as podcasts. To find out more visit https://dublinfestivalofhistory.ie.
